57" x 57"

Commercially dyed cotton; machine pieced, hand appliquéd through all layers.

This work was inspired by Jan Vermeer's A Lady Seated at the Virginal. I was especially interested in the painting's structure and luminosity, which I tried to capture in my quilt. Viewing paintings is an important activity for me, and I am especially moved by the persistent power of Vermeer's paintings. It is because the 17th century painting "still" effects me (and others) that the woman is "still seated"
