Most of us have shelves, drawers, and even rooms full of
fabric. Some of it was purchased for a project that was never done. Some we just
fell in love with and had to have. Now we don't know what to do with it, and
perhaps we don't even like it. Whatever your reason for having unused fabric
there are many ways to use it, and really feel good about doing so.
- Use it for quilt backings; sew pieces together if necessary. It may
become a conversation piece by itself.
- Make pillowcases. It only takes a yard to make a standard sized pillowcase.
Make it extra special by adding a pieced block left over from another project.
- Make a quilt(s) for a favorite charity. I enjoy making at least one charity
quilt during the month of January. It somehow gets the New Year off to a good
start.
- Package up some of the fabric for a guild silent auction.
- Contribute some to a mission effort.
- Make a tablecloth for the picnic table.
- Make fabric bags. One use might be as a hostess gift with a bottle
of wine.
- Wrap presents in fabric. Other quilters love this.
- Make bags to be used on walkers by the disabled.
- Make cool duffle bags or backpacks.
- Challenge yourself to make an ugly quilt.
- Make book covers.
- Make adult bibs for a nearby nursing home.
- Make potholders and/or hot pads.
- Make charm squares and trade with your friends.
