Please meet Amy, granddaughter of quilter Ann Hawkins. At age 5,on vacation in South Carolina, Amy drew pictures on muslin with fabric markers, then chose and arranged the sashing fabrics for me to piece and make the quilt.

On her next visit, she not only drew pictures, but strip-pieced fabrics to make the additional blocks. Then sewed the blocks together to make the top, and in the process falling in love with the sewing machine and what it and she could do.

At age 7, she chose fabrics and made a crazy pieced cushion top, added borders, AND machine quilted it herself: thus qualifying her as "a quilter".

This year I hear she is "designing" a large bed quilt to make during the summer holidays, and quote "the bottom edge must touch the floor." What fun this will be!

Editor's note: Ann and her husband are moving back to Canada this summer, so Ann will be close to Amy. Won't it be fun to see what new projects these two quilters will come up with!
