Cute Little Purses from Suzanne Sievers Pattern Review posted: 11/7/2004

Cute is the word. And easy! I made the Black Purse with Pink Bow, and I made it in a flash. The pattern tells you to copy and paste the front, back and front flap and add 1/2" seam allowance all the way around. I then folded my pattern in half lengthwise so that both sides were the same and cut around the pattern, then I folded it in half again to check that the back and front were the same size. I shaved off a little bit from the back. From there, it took me no time at all. Suzanne’s directions were really simple and straightforward.

I used a purple fabric with small flowers on it. I then used a small stipple stitch that my Pfaff 2144 has built in to it for an all over quilted look. I bought three colors of braid and braided them for my handle. I also decided that I would add binding to the edges of the purse before sewing it together. After I added the binding, I was worried that it was too thick to sew on the sewing machine, but it was no problem for the Pfaff. I was also able to sew a decorative stitch on the edge as I sewed the purse together.

Suzanne Sievers packages 3 patterns in a cute little pink purse bag. They should be arriving at you local quilt shop soon. The purse that I made is easy enough for a beginner. I'll be working on the other two, so look for more to come on these little purses.
