Because I was an Art major,I have been drawing, painting, sewing and quilting most of my life in some form or another. After a long attempt at trying every method, I settled happily with quilting since my art work was never what I wanted it to be. I have always loved flowers and nature and my work reflects a more natural look versus a stylized approach.
After trying many methods of applique and realizing that I was not good at piecing, and not achieving the desired effect, I came up with my own way of approaching the challenge of difficult designs. I was greatly influenced by my dear late friend Jessie Harrison who was a world recognized Miniature Artist. She thought small and I thought big! She introduced me to the glue stick and the rest is history.
I enjoy teaching applique and my method on a very limited basis because I need the time to continue my own designs and quilts. I still have at least 15 half finished quilts circling around like airplanes waiting in line to land! Some are still on the drawing board and some are in the process of being made. Sharing my love of applique is very rewarding and to experience someone who has avoided it come to say "I can do this!" is the best blue ribbon of all.
I now live in San Diego and have been a member of a wonderful Guild which is one of the smartest things I have ever done.
