I love flowers whether they be real, paper or fabric and am a collector
of floral fabrics. I saw this technique used in a magazine and ordered
a small kit of floral fabric cuts which I combined with my stash to create
this quilt. I have used this technique many times since, with an always
interesting result. 5.5 inch blocks (or larger or smaller) are sewn in rows.
The quilt is then cut and resewn twice which creates a rectangle on point.
At this point, all outer edges are on bias, so it is important to immediately
measure the length and width of the quilt, cut and sew on a border before the
edges can be stretched with handling. This is a quick and easy technique and
is equally as pretty done in medium and dark value fabrics. I have also made
the quilt in tone-on-tones using beiges, tans, pale pastels and whites. I used
a dark tan batik for the inner border and strips of fabrics used in the quilt as
a "piano keys" outer border. The result was pretty spectacular.
