This quilt was made within 6 hours at the Annual Pieceable Retreat of The Quilters Of South Carolina. It had been announced that the president's daughter was going to have brain surgery. The word went out on Saturday afternoon at about 2:30 to bring 6" squares (the nine patch class made nine patches) to one of the classrooms. They were also asked to sign a label for the back of the quilt. We were limited on time.....we needed to get it done for the general meeting that evening, and were also limited on the size of the backing fabric(no time to piece it). People would come in and take some squares to piece a row, bring it back lay it on the floor (our design "wall"), and take some more, then started sewing the rows together. One of the members stayed during dinner to quilt it (having someone bring her a salad) and we presented President Carol with the completed quilt at the 8:00 evening program, all quilted, bound, and the label sewn on. We kept it a secret and needless to say she was very surprised and her daughter is doing fine now.
