Ann Hazelwood began her quilting career in 1970 by producing a line of patchwork products she sold across the country. This is when Patches etc. was conceived.
In 1979, Patches etc. opened its physical doors to the public in the charming historic district along the Missouri River in St. Charles, Missouri. In 1984, Patches Craft Center opened for the needlework clientele, and in 1992, Patches Button Shoppe opened for the button enthusiasts. Patches Quilt Shop was featured in the first issue of Better Homes and Garden's Sampler Magazine as one of the ten best quilt shops in the country. Patches also received the 2001 Craftrends Magazine's Hall of Fame Award.
Ann has become a quilt historian, lecturer and author of many quilt related subjects. Ann's love of red and white quilts and redwork has been one of her specialties, which included a Red and White Quilt Show.
Ann is a Quilt Appraiser, certified by the American Quilting Society, which included serving on Certification Committee for many years.
Ann has brought quilting into her civic life where she has received the following awards; Small Business Person of the Year, Retailer of the Year, Sacajawea Award for historic preservation, and just recently a Lifetime Civic Award from the City of St. Charles, Missouri. Ann is married to Keith Hazelwood, a local Attorney, and has two sons and two step sons.
