Want to make some variations on the log cabin block that are easy to do? “How To Make Log Cabin Flannel Quilts With Foundation Piecing” by Linda Causee is just the book for you. Whether you are ready to make a baby quilt or a large bed sized quilt, or even a Christmas wall hanging, you’ll find it in Linda’s book.
There is a detailed discussion on the care and handling of flannel, from which all these quilts are made. Even though the title suggests flannel, you could use any good quality 100% cotton fabric to make these designs. Each of the eight projects is foundation pieced, ensuring accuracy and ease of construction. Included are some basic log cabin designs with creative settings and unique piecing.
The “Baby Stars” is pieced with half the block traditional log cabin and half with a type of pineapple log cabin that make the “Stars” float across the quilt. Try the “Rainbow Clamshells” with logs cut different widths for a fun quilt. My favorite is “Star Galaxy” where there are golden sharply pointed stars across the quilt.
Each quilt has a good layout diagram with several sizes. The quilts have enough variation that will keep your creative juices flowing. This one would be a good book to buy for your guild library.
