Have you noticed how much scrapbooking is overlapping with quilting, in the products, and the methods? I see more and more scrapbooking ideas in the quilt world. A new book by Sue Astroth called Fast, Fun & Easy Scrapbook Quilts helps you “put your best memories on display!” using scrapbook and quilting methods combined. Sue leads you through the process of making a “personalized heirloom you and your family will treasure forever.” There are 15 quick and easy projects” which include kids, nature, patriotic, art, and ethnic themes and more.” You can add “vintage photos, memorabilia, stamping, decorative papers, and other imaginative embellishments.”
Sue includes sections on choosing fabrics, embellishments, where to find them, and how to use them. She even gives you tips on how to store them, and suggests sharing stamps and other tools with friends.
Beginning with a “base quilt” and showing you several layouts, she guides you through the process of making a scrapbook quilt. Then there are 14 planned projects with several other examples in the gallery section. Each quilt is around 10” x 15”. Some can be a little larger (see the studio quilt), or you could make it smaller. Quilting is done before most of the embellishments are put on, and then she has a good section on finishing your project. Each scrapbook quilt is personal, because of the stamps, pictures, or other embellishments that the quilter adds.
This looks like so much fun and what a great present to give on a birthday, anniversary, graduation, marriage, or other special event, or even to your secret sister. This is a good book to add to your personal or guild library. Look for this book at your favorite quilt shop!
