The design came from a mere accident. My Sister was over and she & I were discussing the remodeling of her daughter’s room. When deciding on a color combination for her room I offered to make a quilt for her,
After all she was my first niece and I was more then happy to make it.
As my sister and I went through my fabric we lost sight of my niece. She had gotten a hold of my rotary cutter and cut her hand. Needless to say, my sister grabbed her up and rushed her to the hospital. I was just beside my self, and took the cutter, cut through the nine patch block, picked up the fabric and threw it all back into a box.
Weeks went by before I saw the fabric or the cut blocks. Tara, my niece asked me if I had her quilt done yet. Well, no I explained, that I felt so bad about her getting cut that I just could not bring my self to work on it She cried and stated that was the one she wanted, so out of the box it came. I put the fabric on the table along with the cut nine patch and she started to try to put it back together like a puzzle. At the time she was only five and she wanted to fix it, when to my surprise a new design came to life, and we made her quilt.
Since then I’ve made five of this design and raffled or auctioned them off for different fun raising events.
I feel the Tara Quilt offers traditional design. They are machine quilted in the ditch and tied to give it the
feeling of grandma’s quilts. The ties in our family bring special meaning. It takes me back to when I first learned to quilt with my mother. She told my sister and me that we were making little flowers, so it only felt right that the Tara Quilt was also tied like a flower that was stepped on but still bloomed.
