First Place Art Quilt Small
The Spanish poet, Frederico Garcia Lorca, once gave a lecture about
what he called the Andalusian "spirit of Creativity" -- the Duende--
which has captivated my attention for the past few years. Starting
with an offset print of two large leaves on white fabric, parts of
the wholecloth background were then silk-screened, stamped,
stenciled, and eventually, over-painted, to emphasize the concept.
Extensive machine embroidery, couching, and quilting over fused
fabric pieces were then added to bring out more texture as well as
the "other worldly" effect of two souls in search of their own
creative paths.
