I have been a professional graphic communicator and designer for over 30 years, known for my work in corporate identity, logo design, packaging design and state-of-the-art typography. The handpainted fabrics I create combine these skills with my involvement in the art quilt movement. Themes are highly personal and esoteric, focusing on odd things that catch my interest, a concept, a culture, strong emotions, journeys both without and within, books I have read, mysteries of human relationships, or just the simple and beautiful shapes of the letterforms. I enjoy creating many layers of surface texture, beginning with the typographic motifs on the fabric itself, then by adding extensive machine quilting and embroidery with many kinds of threads.Like experiences in life, the layers of texture, form and color tell the story. About LonniRossi… A graduate of Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia, Pa ('70) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Advertising & Graphic Design, Lonni Rossi has also taught typography and design at MCAD and Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. She is currently president of LONGINA GRAPHIC COMMUNICATIONS, which she opened in 1984. Ms. Rossi has won numerous design industry awards for her work in Logo design, packaging design, marketing, promotion and corporate identity. In 1987, searching for a more personal form of expression other than her graphic design career, Lonni Rossi discovered fiber art, quiltmaking and fabric surface design through networking with other artists. Today, after 14 years as a serious maker of art quilts and fabric surface design, the medium has become her primary creative focus. The handpainted fabrics Lonni Rossi creates combine her love of communication through typographic design and the written word, with textiles and quiltmaking. The meanings of each typestyle, word, letter, motif or color she uses in her work are completely personal. Beginning with white fabric as her blank canvas, she achieves surface texture on the fabric using her original designs in a combination of silk screen imaging, stenciling, rubber stamping and hand painting techniques. These one-of-a-kind fabrics are then used in combination with extensive machine embroidery and quilting to create her award winning art quilts. Visit my web site at: http://www.LonniRossi.com
