Two enormous stately trees, an oak and a magnolia, drape themselves
protectively on the front lawn of the Executive Residence of North Carolina
(proper title). Constructed by convict labor using pink North Carolina
sandstone and hardwoods, it is one of the few governor's homes in the nation
constructed in the nineteenth century and is still existing as a lived-in
residence.
